General Programs for Children
Kendall Speech and Language Center, Inc.’s General Programs for Children are comprised of standard programs and services that have proven to be effective across a broad spectrum of Communication Disorders.
Academic Tutoring is available for children who are experiencing difficulty with their academic school work,
are interested in fine tuning their academic skills, wish to maintain their current level of performance,
or want to build a stronger foundation of skills in preparation for academic learning.
Behavior Management Therapy enhances an individual’s quality of life with proactive intervention strategies. Challenging behavior can interfere with a child attaining access to naturally occurring personal and social reinforcement that maintains positive behavior. Behavior Management Therapy teaches the child and family how to manage challenging behaviors by replacing them with functional behaviors that will lead to positive consequences in the natural environment.
Earobics is a software program that systematically teaches the listening skills required for reading and academic success. Research has shown that phonological awareness is the best predictor of success in reading. Research has also shown that this ability to identify and manipulate the sounds of language can actually be developed through systematic instructions.
Fast ForWord is a computer based training program which rapidly develops the oral language skills necessary for reading.
The FIRST STEP™ was created by Wendy Nottoli in 1993 to provide a language based program which promotes communication, language, cognitive independence, and social development with our developmentally challenged population.
In our schools, emphasis is placed on reading and writing, yet when it comes to handwriting our focus is lost. Countless students can’t write legibly. What’s more, our children find the physical act of handwriting daunting. They are confused about how to form letters. They clutch their pencils until their hands hurt. So much effort is placed on the mechanics of writing that our children get bogged down and find it impossible to compose sentences much less write paragraphs!
Integrated Listening Systems is a multi-sensory program for improving brain function. It is an enjoyable activity or “exercise” which can be customized for all ages and skill levels.
Interactive Metronome® (IM) is a therapeutic assessment and training program that improves attention, concentration, motor planning and sequencing. Improvements in those areas result in stronger motor control and coordination, enhanced balance and gait, and improved language and cognition.
The Itty Bitty Steps program is designed to facilitate language development, social interaction, and play development. This program is designed for very young children to enhance their play and communication skills.
Keyboarding Without Tears® is an award-winning, web-based curriculum that teaches the keyboarding and pre-keyboarding skills students need to succeed in today’s classroom.
The Little Steps Big Rewards program is designed to facilitate social interaction, play development, emergent literacy, language development, and phonemic awareness. It is a program designed to guide our children with communication challenges to feel more confident while learning the necessary skills to succeed in a natural environment.
Myofunctional Therapy is a regimen designed to correct orofacial muscle imbalance and abnormal swallowing patterns. Dental practitioners have long been concerned about the effect of the dental form on orofacial muscle function and the function of the orofacial muscles on dental form.
Occupational Therapy is skilled treatment that helps individuals achieve independence in all facets of their lives. It gives people the “skills for the job of living” necessary for independent and satisfying lives.
Feeding Therapy is designed to address difficulties that occur at any step in the process of eating and drinking.
Our WINTER FUN program is designed to facilitate language development, and social interaction with a little bit of academic review. It is a program designed to offer our children a supervised, social learning environment while having lots of fun!
The P.L.A.Y. Project (acronym for Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters) is a community-based, national autism training and early intervention program.
The Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) is a unique augmentative/alternative communication system that allows children with communication deficits to initiate communication with others.

Speech & Language Assessment / Therapy is implemented for several reasons:Our first reason would be to change or eliminate the underlying problem. The results of this intervention would result in child who is able to learn in the same way as his typical peers and there is no need for further intervention. This is possible with children who present with difficulties such as delayed articulation development.
Speech-Language Therapy is the treatment of speech and/or language delays or disorders.
This program is comprised of a series of comprehensive screenings that are designed to identify high-risk candidates for potential speech, hearing, language and/or visual problems.
The STEP UP is designed for those children who are preparing for successful inclusion in to the kindergarten world. It is difficult for children to learn what is expected of them in the classroom especially if they are children who have been diagnosed with a language delay and/or a developmental disorder.
The Steps for Success program is a therapeutic home schooling intervention program that is tailored to each child’s specific needs. Each child’s program is designed to include peer interaction with an emphasis placed on one to one academics, speech and language therapy, behavior, and occupational therapy.
